Interpreting training can be fun and effective with the right tool

Sanako Connect’s versatility and utility at full display in interpreting skill building at Newcastle University.

At Newcastle University, our MA in Translating and Interpreting stands out for its seamless integration of learning technologies—both in the classroom and in students’ independent study. Few programmes embed digital tools as effectively as we do.

A key part of our approach is using Sanako Connect to enhance students’ vocabulary and subject-specific terminology. By combining this platform with AI-assisted, corpus-based term generation, we challenge students’ encyclopaedic knowledge and prepare them to handle high-level translation and interpreting tasks from day one.

One of our favourite features—shared by users worldwide—is the image description task. But we take it a step further. We design innovative exercises that help students master English collocations and prepositions—linguistic features that often distinguish top-tier performance in both translation and interpreting.

Sanako Connect’s flexibility allows us to embed HTML scripts directly into the task editor, enabling the creation of rich, interactive tasks tailored to specific training goals. This expands our pedagogical toolkit and keeps learning dynamic and targeted.

Our students also gain real-world experience by supporting both in-person and virtual international conferences.

How do we select the best candidates for these opportunities? You guessed it—Sanako Connect. Its remote testing capabilities ensure fair, efficient, and accessible selection processes, no matter where applicants are based.
